Dryanovo – the small town with a rich history

There are dozens of reasons why you should visit this remarkable Bulgarian city, home of many prominent Renaissance figures. Dryanovo is located in the northern slopes of Balkan mountain, between the rounded hills of the Balkan and the stunning gorges of Dryanovska River and the river Yantra.  The amazing nature and his rich history stored through its monuments and museums are the reasons why the city is a favorite destination, visited annually by thousands of tourists.

Walk around the countryside of Dryanovo

The Cultural and historical wealth is the main reason of the tourist development in the region. In the Bacho Kiro cave, located a few km away of Dryanovo, has been found the oldest evidences of the human life in the Balkans. This cave is one of the most stunning and scenic creation of the nature with his rock formations and exquisite karst forms.

Near the cave,  among the gorge of Dryanovska river, is located one of the biggest and remarkable monasteries in Bulgaria. Preserving the Bulgarian spirit and recreating the unique atmosphere of the Renaissance, Dryanovo monastery  “St. Archangel Michael” attracts hundreds of christian tourists, willing to touch the Holy Monatery.

Dryanovo’s landmarks

This pre-Balkan city gave a lot to the Bulgarian history. Here is born the notable architect and builder Kolyu Ficheto. For his 81 years living he built dozens houses, churches and bridges, some of them are preserved to this day. In his hometown there are some of his creations left, most remarkable of them are the Icono’s and Lafchieva’s House, the bridge over Dryanovska river and the temple “St. Nikola”. In the museum “ Kolyu Ficheto” are preserved different expositions that represent the life of Dryanovo and their traditions.

In the center of the city you can find a big embossment map of Bulgaria, created in the 60s of 20th century by the local geography teacher – Bonka Tikhova. The map is located just opposite of the clock tower, another important symbol of the city which was under a long recovery process, triggered entirely by the residents of the city.
